Intensive Wrap-Up

Comments from Final In-Boston Review:

Amy - "How do you support the digital village idea? From here, where do you take these buildings and/or the public spaces to further that notion?"

Herb - "What are you learning about the project by going back and forth between the physical model and the SketchUp model? What becomes apparent by working in these two different media?"

CR - "Where is the village center? What makes a village center?"

Enno - "The plan shows your ideas the best. Consider how you enter the site -- the entrance starts to becomes more important than the building forms."

Herb - "A town center has layers, and there is effectively a swirl of activity that creates 'it.' Consider the corner - you are showing 2 different things that make 2 very different statements."

Enno - "You have honed in on the digital nature of the Apple products / icons...this is a good direction."

Amy - "A pod connotates mobility. Your designs have very specific forms...but your sketches are more mobile, more free. So...is a digital village the same as a regular village?"

Tom - "The range of presentation here is great. Start working with more defined plans, sections and elevations. Find a way to really show that village center. What does it look like? How is it experienced? What is the quality of that space(s)?"

CR - "Maybe start by designing the interior rooms and work backward from there..."

Tom - "There are a lot of ideas and concepts here...simplify, simplify, simplify."

Amy - "The perspective from eye-height of emerging from the convention center is the strongest illustration. Some of the others are a bit less clear."

Enno - "Maybe instead of a town center...this wants to become a passage. It's about the journey, the path, rather than the center point..."

Mike,
I think with all this feedback from the crit, you should have a new, fresh look on the project ahead. You have a wonderful way of presenting your ideas - now its time to focus on a clear plan and stick with it.

I'm looking forward to seeing a floor plan - especially to see how your outdoor circulation plan correlates with the circulation of the interior spaces.

Great 3D imaging!

By the way, are you feeling better?

Mike,
The idea of the digital village is great. Before I solidified my concept of Urban Theater, I had some ideas that correlated with your project that might (or might not) be of use for you. I had the idea that people could walk up to a "pod", no larger than a bus stop, and could download/upload to their personal electronic devices. These individual kiosks could draw passers by into the site for a quick interaction. Then the building(s) could service the longer interaction phases.

So, the countdown begins (before the end of the 2007 season) for the live draft. At least this gives me plenty of time to scout out for the 08 draft...
